…it works for me.
Do you have a 30 year old broken-up driveway that you think needs to be jackhammered up and removed, only to be faced with another huge expense of replacing that driveway with a new one? Don’t do it!
Here are a few pics of a driveway in The East Bay. Eleven uniquely defined sections took four colors to accomplish the goal of ‘no two colors touching’. It wasn’t my idea. Or was it?
David: Why didn’t you roll that hose up at your job?
Me: I was grizzled.
David: What does that mean?
Me: It means I was too tired, cold, and cranky.
David: Oh. When are you going to roll it up?
Me: I don’t know. You think you can help me out?
David: Yes
Me: You think so huh?
David: Yes
Me: Ok hold on, let me get my camera
David: Why do you need to get your camera?
Me: Oh, just because…
This is a photo of a ten year old deck in Scotts Valley California. Obviously the boards on the left have been stained and the boards on the right are waiting patiently for their turn. The stain is dry, which gives you a real accurate feel as to what ten year old boards could look like after they have been washed, stained, and have had time to dry. I wish I had a picture of what this deck looked like before we began work on it. It wasn’t pretty!
I’ve made mention time and time again how each side of your shingle home or wood sided home will wear and age differently. If you’re going to commit to a quality transparent, there is probably going to be a side or two of your home that you, or i, will want to maintain annually, or semi, or whatever. It’s also possible that a side or two of your home can maybe go five to seven years on one good coat. Just Depends!! The more hot sun, the more sunscreen. The more exposure to harsh conditions like storms off the ocean, the more protection.
These shingles in Santa Cruz, CA were stained when the home was built about seven years ago, but nothing since. These pictures are shot on a rainy day. I swatch washed two spots, and put Biowash Natural Deck Oil(nat tone) on the top square. The bottom square has no stain.(just washed) Anyway..15 gallons later, this home turned out real nice..
All of our outdoor finish work is performed by hand. Believe it or not, these are very old redwood planks(3×6) in Los Gatos, CA. This deck gets heavy abuse, and as you can tell by the finished boards, these wood planks are under wraps. We’ve been maintaining this deck for about five years now. Da Bomb!

I always liked this photo. It probably means more to me than it can ever mean to you. We do the roof and gutters on this custom home each and every year in early spring. Each and every year when we drive up to this home, the roof always looks fairly clean. Until of course it gets cleaned.
